CELSI researcher Monika Martišková participated in a discussion on Monday, November 18, addressing European measures aimed at increasing the quantity and quality of jobs. She highlighted that Slovakia is a country whose industry is most at risk from digitalization and automation.

The online discussion on the European Pillar of Social Rights was organized by the EuroPolicy civic association and EURACTIV Slovakia, in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung office in Bratislava.

Joining Monika Martišková to discuss work, industry, employment, and wages in the EU were Branislav Ondruš (Member of the European Parliament for Hlas-SD), Michal Páleník (Institute for Employment), and Slavka Eley (Head of the Department for Management and Coordination, European Labour Authority - ELA). The discussion was moderated by Radovan Geist, publisher of EURACTIV Slovakia.

Monika Martišková pointed out during the discussion that changes in the labor market are already underway, with increased automation and digitalization being particularly evident, though these trends have not yet led to a decline in employment.

"Over the past 10 years, we have seen the most significant decline in jobs in medium-skilled positions in industrial production, while at the same time, there has been an increase in high-skilled positions in the industry. Changes in the labor market will accelerate, making it necessary to adapt labor market regulation mechanisms, including strengthening the role of social dialogue and collective bargaining," explained Monika Martišková.
